Purified by affinity chromatography, Galanthus nivalis lectin (GNL/GNA) is composed of four identical subunits. Specifically binds to Rat and Mouse IgM but not IgG.  GNL is a D-mannose-binding lectin (1,3 or 1,6 -linked), though interestingly, it will not bind α-linked glucose. This lectin was one of the original molecules used to understand how proteins recognize carbohydrates. GNL is not a metalloprotein and does not require ions for binding. Snowdrop Lectin is toxic to insects.  Galanthus nivalis is found to bind to many viral glycoproteins. making it a useful tool in HIV research studies.

Recommended Usage: Recommended dilutions of 0.5 – 10 µg / ml in 1XPBS. 15 – 20 µg / ml of GNL lectin will agglutinate rabbit erythrocytes.

Storage Instruction: To prevent degradation and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, aliquot your product into small, single-use volumes and store them at -20°C
