Overview

Whole-blood samples are highly time-sensitive, yet many research and clinical workflows depend on transporting samples from dispersed collection sites to central laboratories. Short processing windows can lead to sample degradation, compromised data quality and costly logistical challenges. Current approaches each present limitations. Fresh blood requires rapid processing and specialist capabilities at the collection site. Fixation can alter epitopes and removes the option for live-cell analysis, while PBMC isolation and cryopreservation introduce additional processing, variability and potential cell loss.

This webinar will explore these practical and scientific challenges before introducing BloodReady™ - an alternative approach for preserving viable leukocytes within whole blood. BloodReady enables samples to be transported at 2-8°C and recovered at a central laboratory, without fixation or on-site PBMC isolation and cryopreservation. Attendees will learn how this approach can extend the whole-blood processing window, simplify sample logistics, support more flexible collection networks and enable standardised downstream immunophenotyping and PBMC workflows.

BloodReady™ uses Atelerix’s proprietary hydrogel encapsulation technology. Simply mix the whole-blood sample with a Gel A solution and transfer it to a tube preloaded with BloodReady™ beads. After a brief gelation step at room temperature, the encapsulated sample is stored at 2–8°C for up to three days. When ready for use, a gentle Dissolution Buffer is added to release the sample, and the beads are filtered out. The recovered blood retains key leukocyte populations and cell surface markers, ready for high-quality downstream applications including immunophenotyping, PBMC isolation, and functional assays. Available for blood volumes of 0.5 mL, 1 mL, 3 mL, 5 mL and 10 mL (larger volumes on request).

Preserve whole blood for up to 3 days at 2–8°C, extending the processing window from hours to days and enabling flexible transportation and centralised analysis.

No Fixation or Cryopreservation

Maintain viable leukocytes and functional cells without chemical fixation (which can alter epitopes) or freezing (which risks cell loss and variability).

Preserved Leukocyte Populations

Retain major leukocyte populations (T cells, B cells, monocytes, NK cells) and granular subpopulations with high viability and conserved surface markers.
