Sabouraud dextrose agar

Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA) is a selective fungal culture medium containing peptones and a high concentration of dextrose (approximately 4%). The acidic pH (around 5.6) and elevated sugar content favor the growth of dermatophytes, yeasts, and filamentous fungi while suppressing most bacterial contaminants. SDA is the standard medium in medical mycology for the isolation and identification of pathogenic fungi from skin, hair, nails, and other specimens, and is also widely used in pharmaceutical microbiology for environmental monitoring.
