D-Idose

D-Idose is a single-enantiomer sugar with a pyranose ring and an enantiomeric configuration. It is used in the treatment of bacterial infections and has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of bacteria that are resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). D-Idose is active against bacteria that do not produce beta-lactamase enzymes, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
