Biological Activity

Vincristine (leurocristine, Oncovin), sometimes abbreviated "VCR", is a kind of microtubule function inhibitor. Vincristine sulfate is the salt of an alkaloid from the flowering periwinkle plant (also known as Vinca rosea Linn). Vincristine sulfate induces apoptosis in human lymphoma cells. Vincristine binds to tubulin dimers, inhibiting assembly of microtubule structures. The IC50 and IC90 of vincristine for the 4 vaccine-associated feline sarcoma (VAFS) cell lines were between 0.005 to 0.039 µg/ml and 0.045 to 1.027 µg/ml, respectively.

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.
