Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a clear, colourless liquid that fills the spaces inside the brain and spinal cord. It is produced mainly by the choroid plexuses, which are structures located in the ventricles of the brain.

CSF has several important functions, including mechanical protection of the brain and spinal cord, regulation of intracranial pressure, elimination of metabolic waste products from the central nervous system and supply of nutrients and oxygen to nerve cells.
