Cells

Cells

They are the fundamental building blocks of the nervous system. Neurons are specialized cells that are responsible for the reception, processing and transmission of information throughout the body. Neurons communicate with each other through a process called neurotransmission. When a neuron receives a signal, it produces an electrical impulse that travels down the axon and triggers the release of neurotransmitters at the axon tip. These neurotransmitters then bind to receptors on the dendrites of neighboring neurons, transmitting the signal and continuing the communication.
