Styphnolobium japonicum Lectin (SJA) - Pure

Styphnolobium japonicum agglutinin (SJA) is affinity purified from Japanese pagoda tree seeds and consists of two subunits: B-SJA-I, which is specific for D-galactose/N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, and B-SJA-II, which is specific for D-mannose/D-glucose. With an isoelectric point between pH 4.9 and pH 5.6, SJA exhibits a carbohydrate specificity towards αGalNAc and elutes with GalNAc. This lectin agglutinates all blood group types, showing a higher affinity for A erythrocytes over B and O types. Binding experiments indicate specific binding to the endothelia in human kidney specimens from blood groups B or AB, demonstrating its D-galactose/N-acetyl-D-galactosamine receptor specificity, while lacking mitogenic and immune-suppressive activity.

Recommended Usage: Recommended dilutions of 1 – 20 μg/ml in Tris Buffer (20 mM Tris-HCl pH 7.5, 50 mM NaCl, 1 mM CaCl2, 0.5 mM MnCl2). Less than 30 mg/ml will agglutinate human type B erythrocytes.

Storage Instruction: To prevent degradation and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, aliquot your product into small, single-use volumes and store them at -20°C
