EF1, alpha (Elongation Factor 1a)

Human eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha has two isoforms, alpha 1 and alpha 2. The alpha 1 isoform gene encodes a subunit of the elongation factor-1 complex which is responsible for the enzymatic delivery of aminoacyl tRNAs to the ribosome. The alpha 1 isoform is expressed in brain, placenta, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas. The other isoform (alpha 2) is expressed in brain, heart and skeletal muscle. The alpha 1 isoform is identified as an autoantigen in 66% of patients with Felty syndrome. The gene for the alpha 1 isoform has been found to have multiple copies on many chromosomes, some of which, if not all, represent different pseudogenes. The gene for the alpha 2 may be critical in the development of ovarian cancer.

Applications:
Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunoprecipiation. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilutions:
Western Blot: 0.5-2ug/ml detects EF-1a in RIPA lysates from non-stimulated A431 cells. Cell lysate was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose, and probed with E2212 (0.5ug/ml). Proteins were visualized using an IgG (HRP) Gt xMo and a chemiluminescence detection system.
Immunoprecipitation: 4ug immunoprecipitated EF-1 a from an A431 RIPA cell lysate.
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Positive Antigen Control (Included):
A0001-50: Non-stimulated A431 cell lysate.

Control cells:
Non-stimulated A431, Jurkat or 3T3/A31 cell lysates

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
