Human whole blood is a complex biological matrix comprising plasma, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, and circulating molecular components, including proteins, metabolites, nucleic acids, and extracellular vesicles. Peripheral venous blood collected in K₂EDTA (dipotassium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) is widely used in biomedical and translational research. K₂EDTA acts primarily by chelating ionized calcium required for the coagulation cascade, thereby maintaining blood in an anticoagulated state. Under appropriate collection, handling, and storage conditions, K₂EDTA whole blood provides cellular and molecular material for a range of downstream applications.
