(3α,5β,7α,24E)-3,7-Dihydroxy-cholest-24-en-26-oic acid is used in the preparation of a nonstereospecific 3α,7α,24-trihydroxy-5β-cholestan-26-oic acid during chenodeoxycholic acid biosynthesis, which has been identified as a key intermediate in chenodeoxycholic acid biosynthesis.
